Subject: An ideal guide on hinduism
Subject: An ideal guide on hinduism
Though hundreds books have been published on what is Hinduism, this book by SC Vasu seems to be an ideal guide to learn about all the basic features of Hinduism. The author explains in 5 chapters who is a Hindu, what are the scriptures of Hinduism, polytheism of Hinduism, polytheism, how to worship, what is soul, who is Iswara (God), karma and rebirth four varnas and rules of conduct of people belonging to all the four varnas (categories) and ashramas (stages of life).
He also answers very convincingly the criticisms commonly raised against Hinduism, such as "is caste of person decided by birth?", "Do women and man have equal status in Hinduism?", etc.
The uniqueness of this book is that the author quotes scriptural testimony for every statement or argument presented in this book. He also provides their meaning and reference.
The discussion about the nature of soul, karma and worship are very elaborate and will surely be of great use to Hindu readers.
Though this book was authored decades ago, it is still relevant. Let us hope some Indological publishers will take up the printing of such books that are now out of print.
